Dusty on Ax-7Dusty Explicit Faith  keyboardist Dustin “Dusty” Landacre was born April 28, 1971 in Harrisonburg, VA. Dusty then spent most of his childhood in Mathias, WV, where he recalls, and “We were made to go to church. Dad told us if we couldn’t go to church then no other leisure activities were allowed. I thank my parents for that today. It says in Proverbs 22:6 ‘Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.’  In my case, that is exactly what happened.”

“I was baptized by being submerged in a river at a young age. Back when all the kids were in youth groups.  But of course that was back when prayer was allowed in school too. I remember as a kid being raised up from my seat in a church revival and being ‘taken’ to the altar, I remember the power, the tears, the cleansed feeling afterwards. Something changed that day. I will never forget it.”

Piano lessons began around age 7, and lasted until his early high school years. Dusty actively played piano at church, weddings, talent shows, and won a few awards performing memorized classical pieces. Practicing piano was emphasized at home as much as brushing his teeth. During early teenage years his interest in classical and inspirational music soon began to evolve to music with “drive and spunk.” His early rock influences included Motley Crue, Kix, Ratt, and many of the “hair bands” of that time.

Dusty met drummer Scott McCartney while enrolled in a local community college. Sharing similar spiritual backgrounds and musical interests, their friendship formed. Dusty still has a passion for rock music styles performed by bands such as Staind, Nickelback, and 3 doors down. He continued his keyboard playing in a praise and worship band with a former pastor of his church of whom he credits as a mentor stating, “A tremendous part of who I am today I owe to him. He was a big inspiration to me.” Dusty invited Scott to perform along with this praise and worship band several times. This is also where they both met Justin.

After a difficult battle with alcohol and substance abuse, Dusty was given reprieve from his addiction by the grace and love of God. Through repentance, the words of Proverbs 22:6 had come full circle. “I believe my addiction was a symptom of a lost and confused soul. I also believe this part of my life was just preparation for what is yet to come. My love for music and appreciation for His grace and mercy merged in early 2007 in the conception of what is now Explicit Faith .” Moved by a Higher Power, Dusty began praying and making phone calls. “It was almost like Scott was waiting for me to call. I already knew in my heart that he was going to be the drummer before I called.” God continued to work by opening communication with Justin and Derek. After initial discussions of musical interest and taste, as well as intentions and purpose of a musical ministry, Explicit Faith   was born.
